Many people aren’t aware that the Toyota Dakar vehicles are built by hand in Midrand, South Africa by Hallspeed. They are tested under extreme conditions (including in the Namibian dunes) that mimic the expected race conditions and tweaked until perfected. Safety is a key factor, and everything is tested to the highest standards from roll cages to seats to seat belts to helmets and fireproof clothing, making the race experience as safe as can be. The extreme conditions of the Dakar rally means that cars are often rebuilt overnight.
